LED Wall Rental for Vancouver Police Department’s Training Academy Grand Opening

16 x 10 ft LED wall showing the VPD Training Academy title slide on a skirted stage in the Woodward's atrium

For a 200+ guest ceremony in a bright, skylit space, Vancouver Projector Rentals recommends a 16 × 10 ft P2.9 indoor LED video wall rather than a projector. Built from 30 ground-supported panels on a 24-inch stage, it stays bright and sharp in daylight, accepts a single HDMI feed from the client’s video switcher, and handles title slides, PowerPoint with embedded video, and live IMAG camera feeds on one display.

On September 10, 2026, Vancouver Projector Rentals supplied the main display for the grand opening of the Vancouver Police Department’s Training Academy – Centre of Excellence in the atrium of the Woodward’s Building at 111 W Hastings Street. The VPD’s Public Affairs videography team ran their own cameras and production switcher. Our job was to give them a large, daylight-readable screen that every one of the 200+ guests could see, plus a technician on-site in case anything needed attention during the ceremony.

The Challenge: Daylight, a Live Production, and a Fixed Deadline

The Woodward’s atrium is a striking venue, but it’s a hard room for video. Skylights flood the space with natural light, which washes out projected images during a daytime event. The screen also had three jobs: show a branded title slide while guests found their seats, play a PowerPoint presentation with embedded video, and display IMAG (image magnification), the live camera feed routed through the client’s Blackmagic production switcher.

The client was already providing the main stage, speakers, and microphones through other vendors, so the display had to work alongside their setup rather than replace it. It needed to sit to the right of the main stage, near an exit door, without blocking sightlines or guest flow.

The Vancouver Projector Rentals Solution

A 16 × 10 ft P2.9 LED wall sized for 200+ guests. We built the screen from 30 indoor LED video wall panels, each 1 m × 0.5 m, giving a 16 × 10 ft display with a 2.9 mm pixel pitch. That pitch keeps text and faces sharp from the front rows, and an LED wall’s light output holds up under skylights in a way a projector can’t. For similar-sized events, our 16 × 9 ft Cinematic LED Wall package offers the same widescreen format.

Ground-supported on the client’s stage. We used a ground support system, so nothing was rigged from the atrium ceiling. During planning, our team recommended a stage of about 20 × 8 ft for a wall this size, and the client’s staging vendor built an 8 × 20 ft platform at 24 inches high. With the wall standing about 9 ft tall on that platform, the image cleared the heads of seated guests.

One HDMI input for every source. The client confirmed they would use their own switcher, so we kept the signal chain simple: a single HDMI feed from their Blackmagic switcher into our LED video processor. The title slide, presentation video, and live IMAG all came through that one connection, and we brought all the cables and adapters needed to make it work.

Power planned before load-in. A wall this size needs dedicated power. We gave the client our requirements in advance (four separate 15-amp circuits, five preferred to keep the wall at full brightness) so they could confirm circuits with the building before setup day.

Setup the day before, a technician on event day. Our crew delivered and assembled the wall the afternoon before the ceremony and tested it with the client’s switcher, so any compatibility issues could be solved early. On event day, an AV technician stayed on-site through the ceremony, then tore down and removed the equipment right after.

Why It Worked

The display matched the room. In a skylit atrium, an LED wall was the only way to keep the Training Academy branding and live camera shots crisp for the whole audience. Taking a single HDMI feed meant the client’s video team kept full control of their production, while we handled the screen, processing, power planning, and on-site support. Setting up the day before took the risk out of event day. This mix of rental equipment, technical planning, and on-site staffing is what our event production services are designed to provide.

LED Wall vs. Projector: A Quick Sizing Guide

  • Under 100 guests, dark room: A high-lumen projector and screen is usually enough and costs less.
  • 100–200 guests, or a room with windows: A 10 × 6 ft LED wall stays bright when there’s ambient light.
  • 200+ guests, daylight, or live IMAG: A 16 × 10 ft LED wall like the one at Woodward’s, or our 20 × 11 ft Large-Format LED Wall for larger rooms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can an LED wall be used in a room with natural light or skylights? Yes. LED walls produce their own light, so they stay bright in daylight that would wash out a projected image. That’s why we chose an LED wall for the Woodward’s atrium.

Can I connect my own video switcher to a rented LED wall? Yes. We take a standard HDMI feed from your switcher, such as a Blackmagic ATEM, into our LED processor. We bring the cables and adapters.

How much power does a 16 × 10 ft LED wall need? Plan for at least four dedicated 15-amp circuits, and ideally five, to run the wall at full brightness. We confirm power with you before the event.

What size stage does an LED wall need? For a 16 × 10 ft wall, we recommend a stage of about 20 × 8 ft. We can supply 4 × 4 ft stage platforms and black stage skirts, or work with your staging vendor.

Do you provide a technician during the event? Yes. Our AV technician service includes delivery, setup, testing, on-site support during your event, and teardown.
